Program Overview for MA in Applied Linguistics in Canada:

The MA in Applied Linguistics is a two-year research-based master of arts program. The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics involves coursework (five three-credit-units courses) in the areas of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics plus writing and defending an MA thesis based on individual research.

Graduate students pursue original research on national and minority languages and linguocultures of Saskatchewan and Canada, as well as the research on languages and language teaching throughout the world.

In particular, we are interested in research projects related to sociolinguistics, language maintenance in Canada and abroad, heritage languages of Canada, morphology, syntax, phonetics, TESOL, second/foreign/native language acquisition, and other areas listed below. Students can also make inquiries about other possible areas of language-related studies.

These are the international student eligibility for the MA in Applied Linguistics in Canada

  • A cumulative weighted average of at least a 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. 60 credit units)
  • a four year honours degree, or equivalent from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the field of study
  • a minimum of nine credit units of Linguistics or Applied Linguistics courses at the undergraduate level
